Lavéc: soapstone pots

Before start cooking (this procedure only needs to be done once), grease all pot surfaces with oil and let it sit for 12 hours. Fill the Lavéc with water and put it on a low heat stove for 30 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat, let it cool, wash, and rinse. Your pot is now ready to use!

With the initial treatment, the stone may darken. If you have the matching lid, you can opt not to treat it and let it darken naturally over time. Alternatively, you can treat the lid to match the pot's colour - It's purely a matter of personal taste.
The Lavéc can be cleaned using natural methods like water and vinegar or water and lemon. You can also wash them with a sponge and dish soap, but avoid prolonged soaking. For stubborn dirt, you can fill the pot with water, let it sit for a few hours, then wash as usual.

Soapstone doesn't tolerate sudden temperature changes: avoid pouring cold water directly onto the pot if its surface is still hot. Allow the stone to cool down before cleaning to prevent any damage.

As for cleaning copper, you have the option to let it darken naturally over time or polish it with steel wool.

The diameter of the Lavéc is measured internally, while the height is measured externally.
In the event of a fall from a height, soapstone pots may break or crack. It's also important to prevent thermal shocks: heat the pot gradually, beginning with a low flame and increasing it as the Lavéc warms up. Additionally, avoid pouring cold water directly onto the hot stone surface.
The soapstone pot can be used on:
- Gas (a heat diffuser is recommended)
- Induction(with an induction adapter)
- Ceramic
- Oven
- Wooden Stove
Our soapstone pots work on INDUCTION cooktops with an induction adapter (this can be purchased from any homeware store or online).
Some tips to use your soapstone pots in the oven without temperature shocks. We suggest to put the Lavéc in the oven when it is still cold. Once the oven reaches the desired temperature, remove the Lavéc, add the ingredients, and put it back in the oven for cooking.

Soapstone cubes

Soapstone cubes are a popular alternative to ice in beverages. Their ability to keep drinks cold without diluting them makes them ideal for maintaining flavor and integrity, unlike ice which can alter the taste as it melts.
The cubes are ideal for serving chilled spirits such as whisky, rum, liqueurs... You can use them instead of ice and add a touch of elegance and uniqueness to your glasses. We recommend washing them with water before the first use. Leave the cubes in the freezer for at least four hours before use.

The bed warmer serves as an excellent heat source. We suggest heating it on the stove, in the oven, or over a gas flame, wrapping it in a cloth, and placing it in the bed before bedtime, ensuring your bed is warm and cozy when you lie down. The diameter of a bed warmer typically ranges from 16 to 18cm.
The soapstone bed warmer is a part of Valmalenco's tradition: during winter, it would be placed on the stove, in the oven, or near the fireplace to be warmed up. Then, it was brought into unheated rooms to radiate warmth throughout the night. It was the only way to warm the bedrooms up during the freezing cold mountain winters as families typically had only the fireplace in the kitchen.
