Soapstone pots
The Big Ciapun
The Big Ciapun
It took more than one year of trials and attempts to perfect the
Big Ciapun
: six Lavéc carved from a single stone block of 33cm in diameter.
Crafting this product involves numerous challenges and hard work: achieving a precise centering for each Lavéc on the lathe, delicately sculpting the pot's sides, sourcing the perfect soft rock and maintaining unwavering focus during long hours at the lathe.
Nicola aimed to craft the full set of six Lavéc every time he began turning a 33cm Lavéc. It took a year and a half of trials to achieve this!
Creating the Big Ciapun required three days of lathe work, with an additional three days needed for binding and lid-making.
What should we do now? Display it in the store? Finish it with rim? After much tought, we're inclined to let this Big Ciapun find a new home, showcasing the incredible craftsmanship of its artisan.
It will stand as a testament to the legacy passed down through generations, perpetually commemorating the art of Lavéc and this ancient craft unique to Valmalenco.
We've decided to offer it for sale but leave it uncompleted. This way, interested buyers can customize it to their preferences. They can choose between the classic copper rim with a single handle or, for certain Lavéc sizes, opt for double handles. They also have the option to engrave a date, initials, or a name on the copper, and decide whether or not to buy the lids.
The
Big Ciapun
is composed of 6 Lavéc of variable diameter sizes: 33cm, 27cm, 22m, 18m, 13cm and the smallest one is 9cm.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do soapstone pots require special treatment?
Before start cooking (this procedure only needs to be done
once
), greased all surfaces with oil and let it sit for 12 hours. Then, fill the Lavéc with water and put it on a low heat stove for 30 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat, let it cool, wash it and rinse it. Your pot is now ready to use!
How should I clean my soapstone pots?
To clean your soapstone pot, use water with lemon, vinegard or detergent. Do not put in a dishwasher.
Avoid soaking the pots in soapy water. Soapstone doesn't tolerate sudden temperature changes: avoid pouring cold water directly onto the pot if its surface is still hot. Allow the stone to cool down before cleaning to prevent any damage.
How are the pots measured?
The diameter of the Lavéc is measured internally, while the height is measured externally.
Are soapstone pots delicate?
They cannot withstand falls, as they may break or crack. It's also important to avoid thermal shocks: heat the pot gradually, starting with a low heat and increase gradually. Refrain from pouring cold water directly onto the hot stone surface.
Can I use the soapstone pot on Gas or wooden stove?
Yes! Soapstone pods can be used on both gas (a heat diffuser is recommended) and wooden stove.
Can I use the soapstone pots on an induction cooktop?
Our soapstone pots work on induction cooktops with an induction adapter (this can be purchased from any homeware store or online). In response to the numerous enquiries we received, we conducted several tests to ensure our Lavécs function properly on induction cooktops.

Warranty
Testing
Before being sold, each pot and slab is carefully tested to ensure that there are no leaks in the stone veins. The marks present on the stone are veins. No fillers or adhesives are applied to the rock: all our products are
completely natural
.
Each pot comes with a
one-month
warranty from the day the product is received. Leakage issues are very rare; the stone is eternal and so are the soapstone pots. Copper also last for a very long time if the pot is properly cared for.
We are still cooking with pots that are several decades old!
We do not replace pots if they accidentally break because of a fall or thermal shock
. Read our
instructions
to care for your soapstone.
