My Family

Our Story

Lavéc is a small business in Valmalenco, born from the stone turning craft that has passed down for five generations.

Lavéc originated from my own idea: I'm Nicola, a craftsman, who decided to rediscover my father and my ancestors' ancient profession. As this art was nearly forgotten, I brought back to life the Lavéc, the lathe where the stone is transformd into pots, slabs and other objects.

Lavéc is the result of the craft which I have inhereted from my family, the knowledge and values of mountain people and everyone else who shares this incredible adventure with me every day.

My Story

All my life, I've chosen to pursue dreams and passions, always striving to do what makes me happy and fighting for what I believe in.

As a child, I shared the love for bike riding with my dad and brother until I managed to become a professional cyclist and took part to important the races I used to watch on TV with my family.

Step by step, together with riding, grew the desire to rediscover the work that my father and ancestors once did; a desire fueled by love for my land, the old traditions and my grandmother's story telling.

In 2019, Lavéc came to life. The project's goals were to preserve the Lavéc (soapstone pots) history, to safeguard our ancestors incredible heritage and to create handmade, quality products as a the result of this ancient artisan work.

My Strength

Roberto My father, my mentor! He's the person who taught me everything and passed down this craft to me, along with the values of tradition!
He's not fond of photos, nor does he like talking about himself, but when he's at the lathe, you can feel the strong bond he has with history, with his origins.

Arianna She's my better half, the one who completes me, and the woman with whom I share this dream. She's my wife, the creator of this website, the one who replies to your emails, manages all the orders, and is unquestionably the most skilled at smoothing the cubes! When she's not at work, she's at home preparing her beloved risottos in the Lavéc!

Grandparents Five generations of Bagiolis have worked the stone on the lathe. Unfortunately, I got to know only my grandfather and just for a few years; I could not see him working at the lathe. However, my grapndparents are always in my thoughts when retelling our family stories and being a Lavéc artisan deeply connects me to them.

Our Homeland Arianna and I share a deep love for our land, Valmalenco. We try to put our passion for our traditions, connection to our territory and its history into everything we do.

We want to promote the land we live in and remember the heritage left by our ancestors.

We love the mountains around us and aim to experience them fully in every season, in every setting.
